People pursue all sorts of different kinds of fitness goals and training programs for all sorts of different reasons. Some people want to look better for aesthetic reasons. Some people want to prepare their bodies for athletic pursuits. Some people need to train to improve their mental health. Some people do it just because they like to maintain an active lifestyle. Some people are just following orders from their doctor.
So in the grand spectrum of "Why" there are many potential reasons for engagement with fitness training. What is most important to establish first in this process is the understanding that the vast majority of physiological limitations are temporary. Since human beings adapt to stress and adapt to the stressors that are imposed upon them, what we really need to come to understand is that achievement is based around effort and time.
We have seen this throughout history.
The 4 minute mile.
The 2 hour marathon.
The 3000lb total in powerlifting.
I could go on and on and on and create long lists of physiological feats that were once deemed IMPOSSIBLE TO ACHIEVE.........yet......they were achieved because an individual dedicated themselves to that specific task.
To be more frank, what we know about physiological development is that everything starts small and takes time to develop.
We all started in the same place.
As little tiny cells.
As we are given opportunities to grow and develop......strangely enough.......we do! Once we are out of the womb we slowly expand our physical capacity. We roll, we crawl, we squat, we stand, we walk, we run, we jump, we throw, we climb, we lift and we do amazing things if we dedicate ourselves to the pursuit of it!
So the question isn't really "WHY" is this specific or particular goal important? The question is why limit yourself to that one pursuit or that one goal? If we are capable beyond our comprehension then a singular goal is a minimalist endeavor with a milk carton expiration date on it.
What instead should be the consideration is how do I pursue my unique limitless capacity over my lifetime?
